Hi guys,
Why not make a special mount saint Benedict gold ring.
Say for about US$50.00.
Once you see it on his hand -you know he is a brother—
later, "bandit"

Many thanks Nigel
Some great thoughts are included, so good luck to them.
It will not be possible to attend from Australia, but if any other plans eventuate eg. garments etc. please let me know.
I am only copying in Ladislao and my old class school friend Isaias [who I have tried to contact many times] as inevitably someone hits the reply to all button and in comes a "zillion" emails.
Happy 2012 to you all and again your joint work is much appreciated by me and no doubt many others.
It would be good to see any of you if you ever make the long trip Down Under.
Not so long for us as we have become accustomed to it when flying anywhere, even close Singapore from Melbourne is over 6 hours, Hong Kong is 8.
Tim [Mew] & family.
PS: a recent photo of my wife Gail [5 daughters and four grandkids] at my 70 birthday in December 2011

Dear Fr. Abbott,
First of all, on behalf of all the Old Boys of the Abbey School, may I wish you and your community a very happy and peaceful New Year, filled with many graces and blessings.
October 6, 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of the arrival of the Benedictine monks into Trinidad, led by Dom Ambrose Vinckier O.S.B., and it is expected that the current community must wish to recognize the event in a special way.
We recognize that the numbers of monks has decreased substantially, and that the responsibilities of planning a celebration now fall on a mere few, some of whom are quite old and incapable of managing a major event such as this.
Because of this, and because of the affection in which we hold the monastery and the many wonderful memories which we fondly recall from our earlier days as students of the Abbey School, we would like to be involved in whatever way we can, to assist you with all that you have to do.
Here are some thoughts for your consideration:
1. Sometime this year, on a date selected by you, a Memorial Mass should be held at the Mount, to which we could be invited, and in this respect, instead of a mass mail-out, a newspaper advertisement could be prepared by an established local advertising agency in Trinidad.
2. We are aware that our old friend, Fr. Benedict O.S.B., now deceased, had amassed a wide collection of photographs of people, places and events connected to the Mount, and we must believe that these are in storage somewhere at the monastery.
These photographs would capture, perhaps as well as anything else:
the spirit of the community, the personalities,
Masses with Abbot van Duin O.S.B,
Abbot Hildebrand O.S.B.,
Abbot Bernard Vlaar O.S.B.,
Abbot Francis Alleyne O.S.B.,
Archbishops Count Finbar Ryan O.P.,
Anthony Pantin C.S.Sp. and Joseph Harris C.S.Sp,
Bishop Francis Alleyne O.S.B.,
The individual monks at work and play, Priests, Brothers, outreach programs to Parishes in San Fernando, Pointe-a-Pierre, St. Augustine, St. Vincent and Bequia, the teachers and students of the Abbey School, the 1st Mt. St. Benedict Scout Troop the 2nd Mt. St. Benedict Scout Troop, Sports Days, March Pasts, Visitors to the Mount, Pilgrimages, Funerals, Blessings of motor-cars, and so on.
We suggest that these photographs be collected and made available to one or two of our "Old Boys" who, working with one of your community members appointed by you, could select a representative number for your approval.
These could then be scanned and prepared in booklet form, with appropriate texts approved by you, through an established website, (www.blurb.com - or some other) and sold at a profit on behalf of Mt. St. Benedict.
3. We believe that it is fitting that an appropriate memorial plaque should be prepared and unveiled at the Anniversary celebration, at a location to be decided by the Benedictine community.
If this is a good idea, perhaps you could let us know what wording you would wish to have prepared and in what lay-out format, so that we can try to obtain cost quotations.
4. Would it be considered advisable, appropriate or necessary to offer a new set of Mass vestments to the Benedictine community?
If so, I would be happy to look into costs and make a submission to you for your consideration.
The Old Boys of the Abbey School did provide dalmatics to 20 newly-ordained deacons in 2010 and we can use the same source again for a similar purpose.
Please understand, Fr. Abbot, that I cannot bind any of the Old Boys to a commitment to provide funding for any of these projects, and please do not misconstrue this email as confirmation of our determination to help.
I am acting as a mere individual, and seeking to discover your own level of interest in any of these ideas, or in any others which you might wish to propose.
Upon receiving your response, I shall then submit your ideas to the Old Boys and seek their support in whatever way they can do so.
===============
Finally apart from the actual celebration at the Mount, we shall propose to the Old Boys of the Abbey School that we should individually attend Holy Mass on the Anniversary Day, in whatever country we happen to find ourselves, to pray for the intentions of the Mt. St. Benedict community, and later that day get together for a mini-Reunion.
I look forward to the favour of a response from you.
Sincerely,
Nigel Boos

Sarkis, Mi Hermano,
What a collection of history, I knew many of the faces, but many I don't know, some of the older brothers may know all the faces?? Thank you,
Funny eh!, How we can get almost anything, anywhere in this world, and we still can't get one single photo album from the Abbey School, of all the great events the students took part in, I could remember Voosh, always taking lots of photos and for so many years,
I do hope one day, that these collections, will appear thru the proper channels.
I believe that with the 100th year Celebrations coming up in just a few months,
We must officially part take, in some form or the other, just out of respect if you need a reason.
Now what I am suggesting is just an idea, in order to receive we must give.
This is the perfect year as an Entire Alumni, to make an offering to the Church, in making this offering; we will have to have, a private meeting, with the Father Abbot.
In this meeting we can only hope, some of our questions will be addressed, as we make our humble donation of whatever we can collect,
I will give u.s$100. for the cause, the celebration, if others can give only $10, there are many of us, our donations should be well received.
This is our year to make peace, with all our brothers.
Glen Evelyn, had an idea of a Plaque, which could be placed on the Castle, or down by the church, still a good idea, but the only way, any of these ideas will happen, is thru the good Father on the hill.
Our roads lead to him.
I hope all are reading the Circular, this is my feed back.
Best regards, have a good year mi amigos,
Adios Glen McKoy.

My Dear Brother Cornel,
(A member of the circle/ Writers of the Knights)
Thank you for your positive reply on this matter, even though this is just an idea, and must be approved by the upper circles of our group,
I am not in contact with the association in Trinidad, I can only rely on Ladislao or Nigel with regards to this local chapter.
This is where I stated peace amongst all brothers; we have been cut off from many events,
1) Because we do not live there ?
2) Sometimes I felt like no one cared for the boys who left the island,
Thank God to Ladislao for allowing the Phoenix to once again rise from the ashes, in the form of a Circular.
Many of the guys in the association are my good friends.
Now this year we must put aside all differences and work together as one body, and not as individual groups, which we have been operating as, for so many years.
At this moment I can only wait to see, what the Greater Circle of the Circular have to say, Ladislao, Nigel, Jon, Don, Art, Trevor, Bandit, George, Clive, the upper circle is so big,
I don't even know them all, and of course Fr. Cuthbert, Fr. Odo & Fr. Augustine.
Then again we have the choice to do nothing
At this point I would like to extend on behalf of the Club, our warm wishes to the new management of the Association, and looking forward to an open door relationship.
As stated in a previous circular, Ladislao in now an honorary member of the Abbey School Alumni Association of Trinidad, please keep him informed, of what is happening in Trinidad for this 2012 Celebrations, did we get an invitation??
Are there going to be representatives of the Alumni present??
Only though Ladislao, can we on the outside proceed to work hand in hand on this joint mutual venture.
Wishing all my brothers all the best of the New Year.
Long live the Realm, Long live our Secret, Scared Circle, The Club.
Long live the Mount.
Yours faithfully,
Glen McKoy.

Hi Ladislao;
Thanks for the (more complete) copy of our soccer (I’m using this to avoid confusion with the Americans who erroneously believe they own the word ‘football’!) team photo. Referring to picture 53UN0001Football, just a couple of comments:
- My name is spelled Hermans (s was omitted)
- Nr. 2, Kevin Felix was also a seminarian. Later, when I was a graduate student at Notre Dame, I ran into him again.
He had been sent to do advanced studies by his bishop.
I remember helping him with some of the science & math that he was struggling with.
Was great to see him, by then Fr. Felix.
- Nr. 4, Peter Dribas. I don’t recall that name but it could be correct.
I remember him as ‘Iggie’ or Ignatius, but have forgotten his last name.
He is (was) a native Indian from inner Surinam , studied in the seminary, and was strong as a horse.
Because he also spoke Dutch, we spent a lot of time together.
- Was great to see all the other names which I had forgotten.
I do remember them all as we spent many days together on the soccer field.
On a different note:
I have not found other pictures, but do still have a series of our final exam questions as issued by Cambridge .
Any interest in that?
Also, is anyone interested in various reminiscences from that period?
I will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary later this year and am in the process of writing some of our history for the benefit of my grandchildren.
So, it will not be any extra effort to send some extracts covering Mt. St. Benedict when I get around to writing them.
Regards
Hans Hermans
(The circular is interested in all of your reminiscence, editor)

Dear Hans,
Here is the photo with the names, please check it out and return if changes are to be made.
Remember to use the file number so that it may be found in the files.
As you can read it was sent out in circulars 409 and 487.
I am including in the December’s circulars your photos.
Do you have any more??
God bless
Ladislao

Hi once more;
I told you before that I could not locate a picture that I know I have of our soccer team.
I found it, and include it herewith.
To the best of my knowledge this was our 1954 or 1955 team which either won or came very high in the league (POS area).
Even though I recognize all of the players, I cannot even come close to remembering all names:
Back row left to right: Br. Vincent; Felix? (seminarian from St. Kitts I think), myself, ‘Iggie’ (Ignatius) from Surinam (seminarian)
Middle row Left to right: ?,?,?,Stephen?, ? (also seminarian) he was from Arima I seem to remember)
Front row left to right: Mendez? (seminarian), Trevor, Alex?, ?, ?
Would be interesting to see if anyone remembers this ‘awesome’ group and their names!
Hans
