Laz,
Congratulations are due to Vernon de Lima and to Dennis Gurley, both of whom are Old Boys of the Abbey School, Mt. St. Benedict, for the announcement today, that they are both to "receive silk", the highest honour given to members of the legal profession in Trinidad and Tobago.
As Senior Counsels, both Vernon and Dennis bring honour and prestige, not only to themselves, but also to their schools and their past associations.
Dennis, in particular, has graciously offered the ASAA the benefit of his gratuitous professional advice for a number of years now, and for this we should be very grateful.
I wish to offer both Vernon and Dennis, on behalf of all the Old Boys of the Abbey School, our sincere congratulations and hopes for a brighter future for the legal profession of Trinidad and Tobago.
May I invite others to add their voices of congratulations as well?
A very Happy New Year to everyone.
Nigel

May I join in the congratulations?
Well deserved.
The main consequence, I found, was the drop in income.
However, you learn to work around that minor inconvenience.

Congratulations to both for this accomplishment.
I am not familiar with the details of what "receiving silk" means, other than it is some kind of local professional award or great honour.
I am sure it was well deserved and it reflects on all of us who have attended the Abbey School.
It makes all of us proud.
In any case, anything that brings honour to the law profession is always deserving of accolades and should be recognized and celebrated.
I wish you both the best continued success in your careers in the legal profession and to continue receiving all deserving awards for the honesty and goodwill that you show in helping to defend your clients from the sharks.
I salute you,
Attila Gyuris

Dear Anthony,
Of course, such good news as you have mentioned is most deserving of praise and congratulations.
This is the first indication I've ever seen, of this vote.
I live in Canada, and do not regularly receive news information about all relevant issues.
It was merely by chance that an old friend, who had nothing to do with MSB, by the way, sent me the newspaper clippings I've forwarded to everyone.
============Laz, please note yet another important instance of an ex-Abbey School student, Judge Anthony Lucky, bringing honour to our old school.
I should also mention that Judge Don Mitchell QC of Anguilla, himself received silk some years ago and was honoured by his country, a fact that he brought to my attention in the course of this recent correspondence.
In each case, congratulations should be offered, even belatedly, and this I most wholeheartedly do, to both Anthony Lucky and Don Mitchell, on behalf of all the Old Boys of MSB.
It would be quite appropriate if you could circularize the entire Old Boy network with this information and a suggestion that they join in with their own messages of congratulations.
We should not disregard the great work of our own compatriots and they deserve our honest commendations.

I am sure all will agree that we are truly proud of our two members who have worked very hard to maintain the standard necessary that they would qualify to be considered for this honour.
Both are extremely intelligent, very dedicated and held in high esteem by all with whom they have come in contact.
Sincere congratulations, Vernon & Dennis.
Regards
Gordon

Laz,
I should explain why I've sent you so many emails concerning Vernon de Lima and Dennis Gurley.
Please do not be angry with me, but I've found that I can send out only so many emails at one time, otherwise my computer crashes.
I've therefore sent out the notices in a series of batches, according to the last names of each recipient, e.g. all those whose names begin with an "A", a "B" and so on.
In each case too, I've included the email addresses of Vernon and Dennis, so that anyone who would like to send in a note of congratulations would be able to access their email addresses at once, without reference to the Database.
You must wonder why I've sent so many emails to you on the same subject, but please be advised that in each case, I've included under the "bcc" option, the names of the other OB's whose emails I know, but of course, you won't see these yourself.
I hope this explains why you've received so many notes this evening.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Best wishes.
Nigel

Ladislao,
That photo was got from the Mount site you guys have put out.
I did not go to Mount but was friendly with many Mount boys.
I was involved with the construction of the swimming pool in 1956-57.
Regards,
Richard Schuler.
(An embarrassing question! When and how was it discovered that the pool was tilted?? I remember that there was “tilting” in the water surface, jajajaj, editor)
