The
planning for my visit, Ladislao Kertesz to Trinidad continues.
Dear
Alumni Class 1960,
The
following itinerary has evolved for my visit to TT:
The
dates are Friday 18 MAY arriving with CONVIASA, I have not made
reservations with the airline but shall as soon as possible, shall
confirm.
Returning
on Wednesday 23 MAY also by CONVIASA.
I
hope to be able to meet you my friend and for those that are
overseas, I just want to let you know that you are also special.
The

Schedule
includes, hope to be able to:
Have
a meeting with the Association.
Maybe
a reason for a get together for old boys, Friday or Saturday, this is
why I placed the flight on Friday, as oldboys are easier to gather.
Reunion
of class 1960??
And
of course meeting, the Abbot.
Meeting
with Don Mitchell and others.
The
first one is necessary, but the others come as they go, in a
leisurely manner.

Dear
Brothers,
I
guess we must face this reality, at this point it is a waste of our
time, to continue knocking at the Abbot's door.
Now
we grew up on the mount, this Abbot was stationed there, two
different feelings about the same place.
I
don't think he will ever understand, this true brotherhood.
The
only thing that really troubles me, is not receiving the simple
decency of a reply, the proper way, this was an official inquiry of
the celebration, from anywhere in the world, just a thank you for
your interest.
Mail
that go to the mount or the Abbot, should be addressed in a business
manner, a brief reply or something, we are still working things out,
don't care will get back to you, this is just not acceptable.
The
guy knows who Nigel is, this is poor manners.
Unless
he talks only to the registered non-profit association of Trinidad.
Then
we are in the wrong, and that is another joke, the local association
is the only reason, why we had to go direct to the Abbot.
It
is the end.
Until
new management, we pray for a better day for the mount.
From
the ashes we came, united from all over the world, we became a big
circle, now look at us, we were just debating on renewing the mount,
and we had it all planned and ready to go
How
many circulars Ladislao, Jon, Don, and Nigel sent out pulling in
members, now we have more members than we know ha! ha!
We
have gained so much, the past few years, it is these blessing we
should be thankful for, where our membership is the best.
What
lies ahead for us is yet to be seen, so far, so good.
We
all do carry the best intentions, all our ideas are great, and we do
look at the reality of the situation and if it is workable, before we
leap into anything.
I
must add the celebration, the reunion, I am doing it every time, I
make contact with true brothers, coming of their own choice, this is
the great reunion, he reality of a great Club in motion.
What
will be, will be, the future is ours to see.
Long
live our friendship, long live the Club, Long live the Mount,

I
think this Abbott wants to run his private life out of the Abbey.
I
recall clearly how adamant he was when I suggested we could set up a
retirement gated community of apartment up the hill past the school
for old boys who wanted a private weekend retreat or place we could
call our own set I the hills away from everything and if there was
enough incentive to rejuvenate the school which we would get a
management team to run.
Plenty
Syrian and other money to fund it and these same Alumni would be a
great buffer and resource for all the shit the Abbey was doing (like
I mentioned before) which they did not have a clue about and were
constantly getting ripped off.
He
thought it sounded like a good idea but said it would disturb the
whole idea of the monastery.
Can
you get that?
The
place has never been so disturbed, understaffed, lacking security,
practically empty as a monastery.
The
monastery has turned from a large number of clergy to an empty hulk.
He
is nothing more than a caretaker of a lot of old buildings and old
retired people.
So
my prognosis about the Catholic Church in TT taking over the parish
is only a matter of time.
The
Irish Trustees will sell off the land and excess buildings, including
the school unless a big charity spends a fortune o refurb the whole
area.
Only
a matter of time guys.
What
we will have left is the undisturbed bush trek up to White Stones
where we can reunite and smoke some Jamaican cigs and fire a rum and
tell some old jokes!!

The
whole current situation is weird to say the least, Nigel.
It
seems to me that he wants to erase the Abbey School from his mind and
have absolutely nothing to do with those who attended, still love MSB
and are willing to help.
To
me, it further validates Jon’s inputs that “resurrecting” the
school would not work.

I
regret to say that he has not responded.
Can't
understand why, but in fact, he has never responded to anything I've
sent him.
Strange,
because I was friendly with him when I taught at St. Mary's College
in PoS, where he was a student.

back in 1986, but he survived.

Hakim Jr. Juman is name that I know well. He went to school from
1973-78. I'm still in contact with him.

Joseph Mayuen. Left school in 1976. A scout, swimmer, good friend.
Born in Arima, died in Arima. R.I.P.

There were 2 brothers Colin and Andrew O'Brien. Colin was track and
field, while Andrew was the swimmer. Colin represented his school and
country at national level. Colin left school in 1977 and Andrew in
1979.

Xavier brothers. There were another set of brothers, but in the 70's.
Dean and Gerard Xavier. There were in school from 1974-79. Dean
nickname was `Doggie'.
Another
name to add is Joel Murray. He was from 1976-79. Border, now
accountant.

I
admire the fact that the guys from the earlier years are organized
than those of the later years (1973-85).
The
Abbey School closed its door in 1985.
The
school stopped taking in students from 1981.

first reference we've ever had, re. your name.
We'd
like to know more about you, if you'd care to share the info., and
we'll do whatever we can to re-introduce you to the Old Boys of the
Abbey School who were your schoolmates long ago.

the first place, when were you a student at MSB?
When
did you leave the Mount, and in what class?
Where

Ladislao
Kertesz (Class of 1960) who lives in Venezuela, is the brains behind
this effort, which he has masterfully championed for the past number
of years, sending out Circulars whenever feasible, and maintaining
links with just about everyone.
Kazim
Abasali (Class of 1972) lives (I think) in Phoenix, Arizona and
maintains a website for us.
I
try, when I can, to maintain a dataBase of OB's names, etc., which I
occasionally send out in a mass-mailing to the Old Boys (some going
back to the 1945 period).
Everyone
seems to copy interesting details of "What's going on" to
Ladislao, and over the years we've been able to have a few reunions,
suppers, get-togethers, etc.
